Kanye West - Devil in A New Dress
May the lord forgive us
may the God's be with us
and that magic hour I seen good Christians make rash decisions
oh she do it, what happened to Religion?
oh she lose it
She puttin on her make up
she casually allure
text message break up, the casualty of tour
how she gone wake up and not love me no more
This song seems to be about a girl who has changed from being good to bad, or something along those lines because he talks about religion and then changes everything about her. The context it is written seems as though during a time when Kanye might be meeting someone during his fame that he hasn't seen in a while. It seems like it is a mix of a confessional and a critique because he is confessing how he feels but at the same time he is is critiquing it. The rhyme scheme is hard to state because it seems different in different areas, but mostly it goes AA BB however, there are some spaces where there isn't a rhyme but the next to rhyme then there is a stop then it starts to rhyme again. This song is a narrative poetry, because it tells the story of this girl and goes deeper into her transformation as a character in this story and in Kanye's song. The tone is very disappointed and sad because he is expressing how he feels about this girl and it hurts him because he says "How she gone wake up and not love me no more " so that line expresses his feelings in a nut shell. The song itself could be considered lyrical poetry because he expresses emotions and feelings about a certain subject, especially when it comes to this transformation of being a good Christian to become this girl who lost it all and puts on make up and becomes very alluring and sensual. It is a good song because it finds a way to talk about this girl but also put the attention on Kanye and express how he feels, and it is really good.
